SUREGRANT PROFESSIONAL CORPORATION

PHILIP J KENNEDY

Meet Phil Kennedy, the founder and principal of Suregrant.

A seasoned commercial lawyer and litigator, Phil developed deep legal expertise in the course of 17 years of employment in international law firms and as counsel with a leading bank.

In early 2017, Phil decided to establish an innovative and responsive law practice branded "Suregrant".  Phil saw an exciting opportunity to help mitigate the regulatory and other legal risks that are often unwittingly faced by smaller businesses, who operate without the financial and internal human resources of large corporations.  He could visualize ways to structure the delivery of quality legal services in a manner that was affordable for more modestly-sized, or modestly-funded, enterprises.

Phil's central vision for the Suregrant platform is to harness information management tools and techniques in order to develop efficient ways of developing critical legal documents and assist with ongoing regulatory compliance.

Above all, Phil desires to give every Suregrant client a well-founded confidence that their business interests are being effectively protected and advanced - on each and every occasion they have reason to interact with the firm.  A strong service ethic, and a deep dissatisfaction with delivering anything less than the finest quality legal work, are Phil's key drivers.

Before entering the legal profession, Phil obtained a degree in speech and hearing science, and in that field worked for a number of years as a university researcher, clinician, and technical sales manager for a hearing instrument manufacturer.  In 2000, Phil graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria, British Columbia.  After articling with a top tier firm on Bay Street, he was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in Ontario in 2002. Since then, Philip has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts and before the Competition Tribunal.  In 2008, while living in Sydney, Australia, he qualified and was admitted as a lawyer entitled to practice in New South Wales.

Since January 2011, Phil and his family have resided in Ancaster, Ontario.  A keen cyclist and hiker, Phil enjoys exploring the trails and rural roads in the local area with others with similar interests. Incorporating a cafe-stop is, he insists, an essential element of every outing!
